Chop Strand Mat

Chopped Strand Mat is the most common type of fibreglass reinforcement; it has strands of glass in similar lengths arranged in a random compressed order to provide strength when combined with resin.

The glass mat is measured in terms of density – the number refers to the grams per square metre. Ace Fibreglass Supplies stocks chop strand mat in a variety of different densities including:

  • 225 CSM
  • 450 CSM
  • 600 CSM

Carbon Fibre

Carbon fibre is one of the more expensive reinforcement fabrics, typically used in specialised fields such as custom racing boats, paddle faces or high performance needs. This is because it provides an excellent weight to strength ratio, making it heavy duty; it is rarely used for general-purpose repairs.

Construction Cloth: Woven Roving

Woven roving uses continuous strands of glass grouped together and woven through each other in a checked pattern. This fibreglass mat also comes in a variety of weights per square meter and provides a relatively smooth finish.

Surfboard Cloth

We carry a range of fibreglass cloth that is specifically designed for glassing surfboards.
